It is finally here! This is the adaptation toolkit for the lower Skeena. With narration (I hope:-).

Over the next couple of weeks the final comments and revisions from the reviewers will be incorporated into the final report document and made available to the public. An interactive ‘toolkit’, created by James Casey on behalf of WWF will also be available. The ‘toolkit’ is a narrated deck of slides that summarize the project, and results, in an accessible way while providing links to the full report and other resources.

Stay tuned for the final report and toolkit to come!

Community workshops held Dec 5-8 in Prince Rupert, Lax Kw ‘alaams, and Terrace

Many thanks to the citizens of each of the three communities who participated in workshops and shared with us and each other responses to our scientific and sociological research findings. A number of action items and recommendations for future community adaptation measures were identified. Outcomes from the workshops will be synthesized and posted to this site soon. Dr. Joe Melton presents Skeena project at American Geophysical Union Meeting

Dr. Melton gave a presentation to attendees at the American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco on December 6. The presentation ‘”Climate change adaptation planning for the Skeena region of British Columbia, Canada: A combined biophysical modelling, social science, and community engagement approach”, was well received by the audience. Dr. Melton leads the LPJ-Guess modelling component of the research project, and his data has also been presented to communities in Lax Kw ‘alaams, Terrace and Prince Rupert, BC. On June 15 & 16, the Columbia Mountain Institute hosted a conference on carbon management in BC ecosystems. Dr. Kaplan presented a number of preliminary findings from the FFESC project. These findings will be posted shortly to the Vegetation Modeling page on this site.

Interviews ongoing in 3 NW Skeena communities

Over 40 interviews with local leaders, stakeholders, and residents have taken place in the municipalities of Terrace and Prince Rupert, and interviews have commenced in the First Nations community of Lax Kw ‘alaams.

Researchers are grateful for the support of the Town Councils in Terrace and Prince Rupert in this research. Many thanks also to the Chief and Council of Lax Kw ‘alaams, and the elders of Lax Kw ‘alaams, for their support and guidance in this research, and too all of those who have so generously offered their time, insight and knowledge.
